I do not know what happened to my other topic on how to play the flute, but I am atempting to start another one. If anyone has any problem with this topic, then, please don't read this topic. I have the freedom to post as much as everyone else. Therefore, I should be able to have a simple topic.

For those who wants to read this, can you give me any tips on how to play the flute? I am a new beginner, and would like some helpful hints.

If you could help me, that would be great!

Thanks,
Lordlover

It so happens that I'm busy learning (or trying) to play the flute as well.
I don't know how much experience you have with holding the instrument propperly, fingering, breathing, etc. The most difficult thing for me at the moment, is to get any sound out of the thing.
Of course, learning to hold the flute propperly, fingering, etc is also vital, but I'd say the first thing you should try to do, is to get it to play at least one stable note. Also, I don't know if you get lessons, but I would strongly recommend you to get to see another flute player at least once or twice, so that he or she can just show you some basic things. To me, holding and playing the flute propperly, wasn't very obvious, and it helped me a good deal when I consulted another flute player. I'll probably go back to her, for a few more tips. Hope this helps somewhat.

I can get some sound out of it, and the fingering is good, but I keep on making a whistling sound when I play. LOL. It is rather frustrating, but, I am sure that there is a way to quit that habbit.

Hey Chelsea,
There is a good way to get out of that habit. I don't really know how to describe it, bu your flute teacher should be able to explain what is going on. I also play flute; however, I am not an expert. I started to learn it when I was in the 5 of 6th grade. I am in the 10th grade and I still play it.

if you're still getting the whistleing sounds, try not to blow so hard or fast, the flute's getting too much air in it, and that's why you're getting that sounds. so, just try not to blow so hard, feel free to PQN me or send me a private message if you want to know more, i've been playing for about five years.
I'll be glad to help as much as i can.
